Lộc vừng là loại cây nằm trong bốn loại cây cảnh quý: sanh, sung, tùng, lộc; Lộc vừng đang được giới cây cảnh rất ưu thích. Để có được 1 cây Lộc vừng đẹp, các kỹ thuật chăm sóc dưới đây cần được lưu ý !

1. Tạo rễ buông: rễ tử thân cây buông xuống:

Rễ lộc vừng rất nhạy cảm với môi trường âm và ngập nước. Nếu muốn cho ra rễ ở điểm nào của thân cây, ta có thể bó mùn, giữ ẩm hay ngâm vào nước ngập đúng điểm đó sau 2 - 3 tháng rễ sẽ mọc ra (thường mọc đúng mặt đước trên dưới 10 cm) tùy cây to, nhỏ và điều kiện cụ thể mà chọn biện pháp thích hợp, khi đã có rễ ra ta nâng dần cây lên (hạ dần nước xuống) rễ sẽ theo đó mà buông dài dần theo ý muốn.

2. Rải vụ hoa: Xử lý cho hoa rải rác trông năm

- Đối với lộc vừng ta không cắt tỉa theo từng đợt như các loại khác mà nên cắt tỉa thường xuyên, khi nào thấy cành vượt là cắt, nhằm làm cho các cành dăm không có độ tuổi đồng đều, dẫn đến việc ra hoa cũng không đồng loạt, mà rải ra từ mùa xuân đến mùa thu.

- Nếu cây đã ra nụ đồng loạt rồi, ta cũng điều chỉnh theo 2 cách sau:

a/ Khi nụ hoa mới dài ra khoảng 2 cm, lấy móng tay (hay mũi dao nhọn) lẩy một số nụ hoa đi (khối lượng tùy ý), số cành dăm bị lẩy nụ này sau tháng rưỡi đến 2 tháng lại ra hoa tiếp.

b/ Thay bằng cách lẩy nụ hoa ta có thể dùng ngón tay uốn cong những cành dăm đã ra nụ (số lượng tùy ý). Những cành này bị tổn thương nụ sẽ teo đi vài tháng lại ra nụ tiếp.

Cần chú ý:

* Khi cây lộc vừng chớm ra nụ nên bón thúc cho cây trong đó tăng cường các loại phân tác dụng với hoa, quả để hoa to, bông dài và đậu quả càng tăng vẻ đẹp của cây.

* Không ép cây ra hoa vào tháng quá rét, hoa sẽ không nở.

Với các biện pháp trên, chúng ta sẽ cho lộc vừng ra hoa gần như quanh năm, đột xuất có cây có hoa và quả ngay trong dịp tết nguyên đán.
