Nghệ thuật trồng cây cảnh mini (terrarium) đã được ưa chuộng trên thế giới từ lâu. Trồng trong bình đậy nắp kín suốt cả tháng, những cây sen đá, rêu vẫn xanh tươi mà không cần tưới nước.

Cây cảnh mini có thể trồng vào các loại bình hở hoặc nút kín. Loại bình thông thường dễ trồng hơn còn loại nút kín thì không đòi hỏi phải chăm sóc, tưới nước.

Cây không khí (nhập từ nước ngoài) không cần chăm sóc mà chỉ cần treo chúng ở chỗ có ánh nắng.

Các loại cây trồng trong bình đậy nắp kín, không cần tưới nước vẫn có thể xanh tươi nhiều tháng. Khi cho cây vào bình, chỉ cần tưới nhiều nước cho đất thật ẩm. Nước bốc hơi thành sương đọng quanh bình, lại rơi xuống, cung cấp nước cho cây.
